Apple Crunch Recipe

Ingredients : Serves 4

900 g/2 lb cooking (tart) apples, peeled, cored and sliced
50 g/2 oz/0.25 cup granulated sugar

2.5 ml/0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
175 g/6 oz/1.5 cups plain (all-purpose) flour
5 ml/1 tsp baking powder
100 g/4 oz/0.5 cup butter or margarine

100 g/4 oz/0.5 cup soft brown sugar

50 g/2 oz/0.5 cup chopped mixed nuts

Ice cream, to serve

Method :

Place the apple slices in a greased ovenproof dish and sprinkle with granulated sugar and cinnamon to taste. Mix together the flour and baking powder and rub in the butter or margarine until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Stir in the brown sugar and nuts and spread the mixture over the apples. Bake in a preheated oven at 220°C/425°F/gas mark 7 for 30 minutes until brown and crisp. Serve hot or cold with ice cream.
